Valerie Thompson

Board Chairman

Being raised in a Christian home, I came to love Jesus very early, but was also very aware of the sin in my young heart. When I asked God to forgive me, and put my trust in Jesus to save me, I felt the burden of my sin roll away, just like Pilgrim in The Pilgrim’s Progress. I wish I could say that I never sinned again, but my Heavenly Father is gracious, patient, and faithful to forgive, and lets me start with a clean slate every day. His mercies are abundant, and I am so grateful for the assurance of His love as I study His Word and try to walk in the steps of my Brother, Friend, and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My husband Gary and I are blessed with four married children, and four granddaughters, all of whom are a delight and blessing.

We homeschooled our children, and when our youngest daughter set off for college, I was suddenly in a new phase of my life. Desiring to serve in a ministry that would count for eternity, I was drawn to the pro-life cause. Could the Lord use me to save the lives of babies, and change the hearts of women making a life-or-death decision?

I was asked to be part of a steering committee that was exploring the idea of beginning a pregnancy center in Marshfield. As I attended meetings, I met some wonderful Godly people who have become close friends; became burdened for the unborn, for pregnant women, and for families in our community; learned how to organize a pregnancy center ministry; yielded my time, talent, and treasure to the Lord to be used for His glory, and for the good work that we have set out to do. I accepted the position of Board Secretary in 2012, and re-enlisted as Board Chairman in 2019.

It is a privilege to work in a ministry that is truly making a difference in hearts and lives. Many have come to know Christ as Savior at the Center; many babies’ lives have been saved; many families are better because they have been mentored at Choices Pregnancy Center. Our church community is extremely supportive, and have blessed us with their encouragement, access to their families and facilities, and generous donations. It is a joy to partner with them in this ministry.

My prayer and goal in life is to please the One who died for me, and to be more like Him each day. “But we all, with open face, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” II Corinthians 3:18
